Remittance envelope scam, police say

Police in southern Ontario say they have arrested a man and charged him with attempting to defraud the public through the mail, including by posing as a doctor.

The suspect is being held in the Kingston area with no bail.

He is alleged to have made a fraudulent purchase of a prepaid credit card with the intent to obtain a remittance package for $2,700.

Police say the man is a self-employed construction worker who had been working at the construction site for about three years.

Police have released no other details of the charges.

The man’s name was not immediately released.
